Sugarbush Vermont trip (Jan 23-25 2009) Article by : Frank Giorgio On Friday, January 23rd, 26 Cresthaven skiers (plus 2 Garden City passengers) made their way up to the Sugarbush Inn for a weekend on the slopes. Being wisked away from Queens in a brand new coach, the beverages flowed as we all renewed acquaintances. There was plenty of room to stretch out and relax on the bus as we only had 28 people, so it was a comfortable trip. Costly, but comfortable. As usual, we made great time. The weekend weather was cold and blustery, with temps at the top of the mountain hovering around zero degrees both days. Conditions were ok, but many wind-blown spots, especially as the days wore on. Saturday were the Met Council ski races, in which Cresthaven did quite well, taking 2nd place overall. Great effort by all those who took part in the races, giving up the majority of their day on Saturday to get four runs down the course. Gerard has all the race details on our performance. I chose not to race, and was able to get a few more runs in than the racers. Let's just say that my Jim Davis ratio (cost of ticket/# of runs) was a lower number than our racers. Accommodations at the Sugarbush Inn were good (some bunk bed issues, but we all managed!) and the service was wonderful. To quote one of our members, the service at the hotel and mountain was very "un-Vermont like" and that’s a good thing. Saturday afternoon was the Met Council’s 75th anniversary party. Great food and plenty of it, great beer and not plenty of it. Can’t have everything. For the return trip I believe Petr set a new land speed record, delivering us to Queens around 9pm. The ride was great, especially the movie that Jim Masterson hand selected, "27 Dresses" There are pictures published from the Sugarbush - Vermont Trip: Slide show view or Gallery View |
