Fall Foliage Bike Ride and BBQ
Events

Joel Malek has planned a Fall Foliage Bike Ride and BBQ for this Sunday Nov, 8 2009,  everyone is welcome and encouraged to bring a friend.

Hope will join us this Sunday the 8th for a last chance foliage bicycle ride starting out in Kings Park at 11am.  The weather outlook is sunny and 60.

'Apre cycling' BBQ and Football game to follow at 2:30 will be at Doc Ryans Pub (631-265-0345). Doc Ryans Pub provides a free Sunday football bar-b-q buffet from 1-5 pm.  Feel free to bring a friend(s).
Please Note: You do not need to Bike Ride to attend the 'Apre cycling' BBQ and Football game held at the bar.

We'll meet at 11am and start/finish the bicycle ride from the Kings Park Long Island Railroad Station parking lot, which is located in downtown Kings Park at the intersection of Route 25A (Main St.) and Indian Head Rd (directions below).  From the train station we'll head west on Main St. and cycle into Sunken Meadow State Park and onto the boardwalk, then east from the park on Sunken Meadow/St. Johnland Rd. for a short pass through the Nissequoque State park, continuing into San Remo and then southward to Meadow Rd before circling back to the train station parking lot via Old Northport, then Indian Head Roads, to load-up the bikes before heading to the pub.  About 12-13 miles cycling.  I'll hand out trip route guides at the train station before we start.

Doc Ryans is located less than 2 miles east of the train station on East Main St. (Rt. 25A) on the north side of the road.  We should be there around 3pm.

Joels cell # is 516-382-3732.  Hope you can join us.  Let me know if you're coming so we'll look for you at the train station.

Getting to the LIRR Train Station in Kings Park
From the Northern State Parkway, Exit 44, or the LIE Exit 53, take the Sagtikos/Sunken Meadow State Parkway north to the Pulaski Rd exit SM4E (east).  Go less than a mile on Pulaski Rd and turn right onto Main St. (25A).  Go 1/4 mile and turn right onto Indian Head Rd.  The LIRR station parking lot is immediately on the right (if you go over the RR tracks you passed it).

If you are attending call Joel and do not just leave a message in the comment box as he may not see your message prior to the event.

Ski and Snowboard Safety Tip

One of the best skiing safety tips is really a matter of personal choice - to wear, or not to wear, a helmet while skiing and snowboarding. Cresthaven Ski Club and both the NSP (National Ski Patrol) and the PSIA (Professional Ski Instructors of America) (eastern division) encourage and promote wearing a helmet while skiing or snowboarding.

So stay safe; wear a helmet while skiing or boarding.
